I cannot believe the news tonight, headlined by the marriage of Jade Goody

Whilst I have sympathy for Ms Goody / Mrs Tweed ..with 2 million unemployed ,soon to rise to 3 million if the analysts are correct, the Banking industry in meltdown ...is this story really the highlight of the day ? Are there not more important things happening in the country ?

Everytime I switch the news on somewhere in the bulletin is diatribe regarding this womans situation and before I am labelled heartless how many families have equally tragic situations occuring in their lives ?

And afterall a star ??..doing what ?? Foul mouthed and rascist comments on the big brother rubbish that channel four pedals. she aint a twinkle never mind a star.

On a positive note apparently the amount of women taking cervical smears has gone through the roof since her diagnosis so some good has come of her situation.

Naturally her condition I wouldnt wish on my worst enemy and perhaps re screening some good is coming out of it. But it still irritates that every news bulletin the headlines revolve around this story. Is this not a travesty to our soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq ?
Cheapen the plight of innocent children starving in the congo conflict.

hopefully I have respectfully made a point

It is a bit silly! Although I do believe she is doing it to raise money for her kids, although whether it's true or not is another story altogether!

I do agree though, plenty of more worthy stories to be hitting the news.

Dittto and i have to say i agree with Channa on this one whole heartedly.

I will however and will continue to support any charity to do with the fight against cancer though, which reminds me did anyone see that programme yesterday i think it was called venom collectors or something like that, it was showing how people collecting venom from snakes and things were actually helping to find cures for cancer and other things, it was a good programme and good luck to them!!

I think it just goes to prove how blase we all are already about the state of the world.....war somewhere? Yeah been there. Credit crunch? Yeah done that. Job losses? Got the t-shirt. So the new turn to that for a new news story.

Her situation is unfortunate, she's no role model, her husband is a criminal, yet she's glorified

I got banned from another forum I posted on after I posted something along the lines of what Channa said... apparently I should have compassion for everybody :p

i feel genuine compassion, and heartache, for her and her loved ones, and as said, the only good thing, is, it highlights the need for smear tests, and this unfortunate story, has had a positive affect on this.

however, it is most certainly, not a news headline. just because shes deemed a "CELEBRITY"

thosands of people, and their families, have too deal with this sort of heartache, on a daily and weekly basis, i know first hand, when our family went through it, when my mum got cancer, and i don't remember, news at 10, knocking on our door.
says something about the world we live in, that this was such a major news story.

Well my test results came back on Monday...all clear, thank goodness, I don't have to have a test for another 2 years.....a lot can happen in 2 years, but even more disturbing are these figures....

Did you know that cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women under the age of 35?•In the UK each year around 2,800 women, of all ages, are told they have cervical cancer•On average 21 women die of cervical cancer each week in the UK, with a total of about 1,100 each year.

Whilst I have every sympathy for Jade Goodie, especially as she is so young....what about these other families?

I'm pleased your results are ok. As for jade goody, I feel on sympathy! She had plenty of opportunities to get herself checked but she chose not to so her demise is self inflicted. It's sad that her children are going to grow up without a mother but plenty of children around the world have to endure no parents in war zones where their parents have been murdered.:(

HWM....Cervical smear tests are not done until the age of 25...and then it is not your choice to go...you wait until you are called. Jade Goody was 26 when diagnosed with Cervical Cancer..it is always possible that that was after being called up for her first test. There is a call by women to the Health minister to lower this age of testing from 25 to 21.

Well lets hope that at least some good comes out of all this then
