Last week I was witness to a RTA were an M&S hgv lorry wrote off a parked car. He then left the scene and never returned.
I got his reg number and left all my contact details with the owner of the car (she was playing darts at the time).
I have got to fill in a form for her insurance company so she can claim from the company but i just wondered is it likely that i would have to attend court as a witness if they decided to prosecute the driver of the HGV for leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report it? I am quite happy to help in any way possible to help the owner of the vehicle.
I have had not contact from the police at present.

Only if the owner of the car contacted the police, she may have simply contacted M&S and her insurance company....
Her insurance company may be in touch with you..
Thing is with Artics and large lorries, they can sometimes strike cars and badly damage them and the driver actually has no idea at all he has had an accident... in that case he may not be guilty of anything except careless driving. Not fail to stop, as you need to know you had an accident to know in the first place that you had to stop. (It does happen)

He was aware that he had hit it as me and my partner partner and another witness followed him to let him know what he had done. his response was htat he would go back ehich he failed to do.
Her insurance company have been in contact with us and the police were contacted. I do feel slightly bad in the fact he may lose his job but he had the opportunity to go back or report later and he has failed to do either of them.

Then he is a naughty driver and deserves to face the wrath of the Courts, just be patient, accident enquires can be slow time and it could be a while before you are contacted by police, It can be by a personal visit or by letter, we in TVP would probably send you an accident questionare to complete and sign. Good for you for reporting the matter, many would not be so enclined.

There is no way i could have ignored it to be honest as i would have felt bad for the person whos car it was as i think he pretty much wrote it off.
We were right behind him at the time and he caught the car as he turned down a narrow side road which i don't think he should have been doing in a vehicle that size, he then lifted the car dragged it into the road and then it just dropped on the floor smashing the back window and right passenger window and mangled all the back end. I think he may also have been reading a map or something at the time (can't be 100% sure) but when we stopped him he was certainly reading something.
I am glad i did stop as she was a lovely lady and very grateful, i just hope someone would do the same for me in that situation.

A seargant from the police station phoned me this morning. Sounds like someone may be in trouble for not doing there job properly. ooops! The police that attended apparently left the car in situe and glass all over the road.

oops....... but then its the responsibility of the car owner to get it recovered, UNLESS its causing an obstruction or is a danger, then police will arrange its removal. As for the glass, again thats the owners responsibility and or thier recovery agents.
At least you have been contacted for a statement which was one of your concerns. at least you can now see things are being actioned.
