Obviously, as the site gets larger, and the membership base also increases, ?clypse have to look at options in relation to funding the bandwidth requirements and the efficiency of the site.

One of the things we'll be looking at is the possibility of introducing click-through banners.

Do you have a company who is interested in hosting a banner here?

Do you know of a company who is interested in hosting a banner here?

If you fulfil either of the above requirements, or have any other fundraising ideas, then please get in touch --> steve@burratha.com or funkster@burratha.com

Thanks.

Can understand why, but that's a shame. One thing that annoys me (well, among others) about SN is the flashing banners at the top. Quite often my page freezes just after putting those up.

We'll be careful. We're just testing the waters at the moment.

Whatever you do, I beg you not to use the ad banners that http://www.planet-f1.com use

Ok one thing I can't stand is pop up windows, they get closed automatically! And also those new little flash ones that pop up randomly on your screen, like the windsreen wipers on autotrader...they should be burned! So none of that, just nice normal banners.

um, does it have to be a relevant business ??

Not really but you have to ask yourself if what you're going to advertise (art from the edge?) is gonna pull in business from motoring enthusiasts. You can always try it! ;)

My uncle is starting up as an artist....he has done two portrait pictures of my old Subaru and they are fantastic.

I know he would be interested in advertising depending on the costs....let me know. :)

I think we will have to keep the banners and advertising companies in line with the content of the site.

We have to look at it like this.... as long as the readers are interested in the content, then there shouldn't be a problem.

Put it this way.... I don't want banners advertising Interflora, or Pampers nappies.

in addition..... we're new to this game, so all advertising will probably be in 3 month terms.... so that

a) we're not selling ourselves short
b) we're not charging too much

"Charging too much" :? :?

I have not seen that term before... must look up its meaning :|

The software I have, means that the advertisers supply 5ive-o with a banner advert and then that is displayed from the database when required.

Yeah I know... but I mean we're gonna be picky about who we let advertise. :D

I take it these are all going to be reputable companies based on word of mouth recommendations too.

Will there be a get out clause on both sides, so that if we need to boot them off, we can do, with no recompense?

All the details will be sorted should we get people who want to advertise.....but suffice to say we will keep the best interests of the site foremost and we will ensure that we retain control of what happens.

And dont forget that I design banner ads under the Kreature umbrella, normally £60, but will do them for £50 for anyone advertising on five-o :)

Pass on my details if anyone wants one doing.

I don't see a problem with banners, similar to those on SN.

I hate "pop-up windows" I just close them, usually without bothering to even look at them...... they are a curse......

Banners to help in funding the site, great idea...... I have clicked on them a few times on SN, and as long as they are motor/driving related I see no problem with it.

suggestion from germany:

have a look at www.hondapower.de , that is my car comunity here in germany...active members about 1.500 (and almost 500 inactive accounts :( )
according to the financial problem...we also HAD it..and then asked some german tuning companies to help us out....and it worked great....some banners....and some money from them...and best thing was/is, that we (the active members) can order stuff from some of the companies and get 10-20 (!!!) % off normal price, cool, ain´t it ?

then we also decided to make the whole hondapower germany thing a little more official...like kind of a sports club thing (dunno how to explain in engl.) each member has to pay about 12 euros/year (damn, 8 quids, lotta money :o ), becoming and official member (even more % off in the shops, member card, invitation to m€€tings and stuff)...and that gives the comunity an extra of 12.000 euros (8.000 pounds) a year for organizing m€€tings and so on....

maybe these ideas could help u 5ive-o guys out too ?
