I just had tracker installed (monitor level - automatically activated). Gives me a useful insurance discount on a specialized import. A couple of questions -

1. are there actually many tracker-equipped police vehicles running around the South-East counties?

2. my biggest worry is that, with living about 40 minutes from the Channel tunnel, some tea-leaf could have my pride and joy (which is left-hand drive) out of the country in about an hour - are there tracker detectors at the tunnel terminal (and Kent ports)?

cheers

Mike

I seem to recall reading something recently that tracker has now got the go ahead to use the same frequency in France - so any toerag who drives a tracker equipped car trough the tunnel will still be able to be nabbed.

I don't know the answer to this one (living in West Yorkshire)

I'll have to hope the southern guys know the answer to this one.

Having worked for Sussex Police and now Kent Police I can answer this question for you.

Sussex Traffic cars are equipped with Tracker units. The Sussex Helicopter also has a tracker unit fitted.

Kent Traffic cars are equipped with Tracker units and patrol the motorways and main strategic road network 24 hrs a day.

Kent Emergency Response vehicles (which I drive) also have Tracker units and also operate 24 hrs a day, if there are enough suitably qualified drivers to operate the vehicle for the 24 hr period. To get to the tunnel from anywhere in Sussex it would be highly unlikely not to come within range of a Tracker vehicle.

IF your car does get stolen make sure you tell the phone operator you ring that the vehicle is Tracker equipped. We can then flood the area with Tracker cars to pick up the signal.

Hope that helps

Yeah I second that - in my force, the helicopter and traffic cars are tracker equiped - Anyone know the answer RE: ports being tracker equiped though?

The Ports don't have tracker equipment BUT if you go for the GPS based systems like Navtrack or Tracker Horizon then your vehicle can now be tracked by Satellite anywhere in the world even if it is inside a container in the hull of a ship.

What car do you have Mike?

Paul - it's a Ford F150 Lightning pickup (supercharged 5.4 V8, 380bhp, 5.2 0-60) - should be easy to spot, not many of them about (like a short-cab uprated version of David Beckham's Ford/Harley-Davidson pickup truck)

I'll probably be on here again asking for advice where I inadvertently creep over the speed limit. Scooby's seem to feel insulted at being left behind by a pickup truck...

Thanks to everyone for the feedback on tracker coverage, that makes me feel a whole lot more secure.

Not sure about the info on GPS though, doesn't it need a line of sight to 3 or more satellites to triangulate? I didn't go for that option as I didn't think it would work with the vehicle in a container.

Cheers all - Mike

is it just "tracker" that are used by the police?
I have a NAVTRAK..

Navtrack contact the [police when it gets activated. They then give a running commentary until the vehicle is stopped

Nice one Mike,
Take it you have only come across standard Scoobs then?
Meet some of the Scoobs off here and you wouldn't be leaving them behind. :o
Enjoy the site mate,it would be great if you could come along to one of the meets and show us this Ford beast.
Regards
Paul. :D

True, and I wouldn't take on any scoob at all on a special stage!

The Lightning is a great platform for mod'ing though, I follow what some of the guys are doing at the Lightning Forum on http://www.f150online.com/forums/index.php, there are a few trucks around that will give anything a run at the drag strip. Mine's basically stock - pic on my other half's web page at http://homepage.mac.com/beatrice/.Pictures/F150Lightning/Lightning.jpg

I saw you're having a meet at the Santa Pod RWYB in April. I'll miss that as I still work in California and I'll be out there early April. I know a guy who runs his Lightning at Santa Pod, so if you see a red yank Ford truck out there, that'll be George

cheers
